Today through Saturday, June 23 – 25, 2011 the first annual Titusville Sea Turtle Festival will take place. Titusville is an eco-friendly town with many nature parks and a secluded beach just an hour’s drive from the Orlando tourist area. Surrounded by 57,000 acres of relatively undistrubed wilderness, Titusville is a perfect getaway for Eco-adventurists to enjoy many nature activities and now, a street festival celebrating the sea turtle.

Due to the Gulf oil spill, hundreds of turtle nests were relocated to the east coast, and Titusville, due to its pristine natural and undeveloped coast, was the perfect place for them. With the shuttle program ending, Titusville is ready to showcase other attributes of this area. It is the downtown Titusville’s hope that this festival will be a huge hit. The seashore here is already widely known for birdwatching, so sea turtles will now join in the local attraction.

While there will be 3 days of activities and events during the Sea Turtle Festival, Thursday will be more of a welcoming day celebrating the arts. Several hosting hotels will feature dozens of artists with a free shuttle service to take you from every venue. Enjoy the beautiful works by area artists.

Friday is the day to get out and explore. Eco-tours will be available in the area with lots of fun things to do for the children. A Jr. Ranger camp will be held on the beach in the morning as well as an educational program and family fish fry later in the day and into the evening. Several activities will be planned for adults as well as kids.

Saturday will host the street festival as the streets will be closed off and live music, vendors, children activites, artists, demostrations and more will take place. From 11am to 3pm there will be something for everyone. The party will go into the evening as area businesses offer specials and live entertainment along the Indian River. Many area hotels are offering discounts too, so be sure to ask for the Titusville Sea Turtle Festival rate. For more information on this festival, visit their web site.

From the west coast detrimental oil spill and the east coast space industry layoffs, surely something positive can come about and help this Central Florida community – as well as raise awareness of these beautiful creatures – the sea turtle. Enjoy the festival!
