Spotlight: Disney’s Magic Kingdom

The original Disney theme park, the one that put Orlando on the map, The Magic Kingdom Park is fun for all ages.  It captures the enchantment of fairy tales, with classic attractions and beloved Disney characters.  The famous Cinderella Castle is the centerpiece of the Magic Kingdom’s 7 “lands,” which cover over 100 acres.  Discover the magic for yourself with attractions, shows, fireworks, and parades; great fun for both young and old, and everyone in between.

Some of the attractions include the famous Pirates of the Caribbean, the ride for which the movie was based.  However, now Disney has incorporated characters from the movie into the ride so beware of Captain Barbossa, Captain Jack Sparrow, and don’t meet up with ghostly Davy Jones!  Another classic attraction is Peter Pan’s Flight, where you get to soar over Never Land to save Wendy and her brothers from Captain Hook. Also classic is It’s a small world, a gentle boat ride which features nearly 300 costumed dolls and animals that dance and sing along the shores of the Seven Seaways water canals. One of the original attractions, The Haunted Mansion, is a spooky ghost tour where your ‘Ghost Host’ will introduce you to his dearly departed friends, all 999 of them!  Tip: There is no gore, and the ghostly residents are friendly.

One of the original thrill rides here is Space Mountain. This roller coaster in-the-dark features 2 rocket-shaped vehicles taking off on 2 different tracks. This ride through the blackness of space is  illuminated only by shooting stars, celestial satellites, spinning black holes and shimmering constellations. Other thrill rides include the runaway train, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as well as Splash Mountain, a flume ride that plummets 5 stories into a refreshing pond.

There are so many fun things for all ages here:  the Jungle Cruise, Mad Tea Party, the Fronteirland Shootin´ Arcade, Country Bear Jamboree, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, The Hall of Presidents, the Enchanted Tiki Room, and so much more!  Tip: Make sure to get to the park early so you can try to see everything, and make sure to take advantage of the FASTPASS system for the more popular rides:  Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain.

Of course, there are many dining options with everything from hot dogs, sandwiches, and ice cream shops to the Main Street Bakery and Cinderella’s Royal Table.  There are also plenty of shopping options so you can bring home great souvenirs to go with your wonderful memories.  Don’t miss the elaborate fireworks displays and impressive parades. Orlando Tourist Tip: Consider getting a parkhopper ticket to visit all 4 Disney parks, relax and have a great time!
