2011 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

You don’t have to be a gardening enthusiast to appreciate this event; it is an amazing display even for those like me who do NOT have a green thumb. This year, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival flourishes from March 2 to May 15, 2011. This special event features live music and educational events along with beautiful and colorful displays of flowers, gardens, and amazing topiaries

This year’s event blooms with over 75 Disney Characters brought to life in topiary, with new additions that include Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Lotso from Disney·Pixar Toy Story 3 and Lightning McQueen from Cars 2. Some of the nation’s top designers will be on hand to help you plan everything from planting your first garden to enhancing your home’s curb appeal. HGTV stars Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder, will be on hand, as well as Epcot’s own gardening experts. Be sure to check out festival favorites Bambi’s Butterfly House and Rapunzel’s Tower, inspired by the new animated movie, Tangled.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings during the festival, finish the day off with music at the America Gardens Theatre where you can enjoy tunes from the 1960s and 1970s during the Flower Power Concert Series. This years acts include artists Juice Newton, The Guess Who, Chubby Checker and the Wildcats, and Paul Revere & The Raiders.

Florida resident’s specials include a Wild 4 Disney Pass that gives you 4 days of excitement for just $119, plus tax. That’s one Park per Day for less than $30 per day, plus tax. The 4-Day Wild 4 Disney Pass can be purchased through May 22, 2011.
Note: There is a one week block-out for usage April 17, to April 24, 2011, and the ticket expires May 26, 2011.

While at Epcot, you have your choice of dining options, and can check out the different International restaurants from 11 countries around the World Pavilion.

Orlando Tourism News You Can Use!

Epcot Center has a tribute to the Beetles show offered now daily! These guys are good including Orlando’s own Matthew Mendel who performs the vocals of John Lennon. This show is not an impersonator show but rather a tribute to the Fab Five and the British rock music invasion. A great introduction to the early age of rock music for the younger crowd which music the Beatles popularize worldwide. This is a must-see show; pick up a daily schedule at the front gate of EPCOT for show times and location at EPCOT’s World Showcase.

Starting March 2nd the annual Flower and Garden Festival returns to EPCOT Center with a new addition – appearances from the on-air personalities of HGTV. Visit the dailydisney.com for subjects and dates the stars will be out at EPCOT.

It’s time to party at Mardi Gras at Universal Orlando with Saturday (and select other days) parades complete with all the beads you could want plus some great concerts. This funtastic annual event runs through April 23rd and includes the following scheduled concerts:

Over at Sea World it’s time for Bands Brew & BBQ. This is another concert series and also on Saturdays. Sea World is partnering with some local restaurants for great grilled and BBQ offerings and new this year, a beer garden featuring over fifty craft and international brews. Willie Nelson kicks things off on February 19th, REO Speedwagon performs February 26th and Josh Turner on March the 5th. For more details visit seaworldorlando.com.

On select dates from February 23rd through March the 24th the acclaimed musical Wicked comes to the Bob Carr performing Arts Center in downtown Orlando. It is a testament to this blockbuster musicals drawing power that it will be playing at the Bob Carr for over a month (typically most traveling Broadway shows are not in town for a month).
