Summer Winding Down at Orlando Attractions

Children are returning to school in Florida, and summer is winding down. Orlando attractions will be very busy for the next few weeks, however, after Labor Day, the crowds begin to thin. Theme parks are not quite ready to call it a summer though!

As suggested in our post about Diagon Alley even before this new attraction opened, the crowds have been astonishing. Just last week Universal Studios announced that 1 million passengers have taken a ride on the Hogwarts Express! In less than a month, this attraction hit a major milestone. Unfortunately, Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts ride is still causing long wait lines. While the wait queue is very entertaining, spending several hours waiting in line is never fun. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: If you can wait until September or October, go to this theme park on a weekday, as early as possible, you may see the shortest wait time for this ride yet. They are getting more and more efficient at handling the large park crowds.

Orlando theme park record day

Another park that has had an extremely successful summer is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Records have been broken primarily because of the special events centered around the movie “Frozen.” Scheduled to end on September 1, Disney will try to extend their summer success by extending the Frozen event. It will now end on the 28th of September. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: If you want to see the “Frozen Fireworks,” you will need to attend this Orlando theme park on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday after the first of September. Other evenings will not feature this spectacular fireworks show.

"Frozen Summer Fun Live!" at Disney's Hollywood Studios

If you’ve already taken your summer vacation, start saving up for next year. There are sure to be a lot of new attractions and fun things to do in Orlando. If you still have some vacation days left, look for discount tickets to Orlando theme parks in September. This is usually a great time of the year to visit.

Discount Tickets and Deals in Orlando This Summer

Discounted Tickets to Orlando Show

Cirque du Soleil is a fun activity in OrlandoOne of the nicest shows in Orlando is Cirque du Soleil at Downtown Disney. Recently the La Nouba show celebrated its 15th anniversary. Over 9 million guests have attended this Orlando show!

Because Cirque du Soleil itself is celebrating its 30th anniversary, a few changes have been made to the show. You will now see a clown act and balancing act in addition to the stunning aero-gymnastic performances, high wire and flying trapeze acts.

During the summer you have a chance to see this show using discounted tickets. From July through September 27, 2014, the cheap tickets are only $49. Other tickets will cost $59, $74, $89 and front and center tickets are only $104 (plus tax). Discounted Fun Card Available

Manta Ride at SeaWorldA Fun Card to SeaWorld and Busch Gardens is a pass that allows re-entry into the theme park. There are restrictions, but in many ways, it is the least expensive way to enjoy a Florida theme park. Because the Fun Card is already a good deal, it rarely is found discounted, but we found a deal for over 25% off!

ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: If you are familiar with Groupon, you may already know about this Orlando theme park deal. Normally your cost would be $95 or more plus tax, but with the Groupon, your cost is only $75. The catch? You only have a few more days to get it.

You only have to know the first and last name of each ticket holder, so you can purchase one for a number of friends and enjoy the theme parks for the rest of the summer. While it doesn’t cover parking or some special events, there are plenty of days left in the year to make this one of the best discounted theme park deals around.

If you hear about any other deeply discounted ticket deals in Orlando, let us know! We love to pass on tips to Orlando tourists and residents. Enjoy the parks this summer!

Island Nights and Summer Nights

With the sun setting later in the Summer, many attractions change their schedules to take advantage of the longer days and make up for the hot afternoons and summer rain showers. Busch Gardens, SeaWorld and Adventure Island are bringing back their summer sunset celebrations called “Summer Nights” and “Island Nights.”

Island Nights at Adventure Island will take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 14 through August 11 (5pm – 9pm). DJs lead the party with games and music on the beach while street performers keep the celebration going until 9:00 p.m. There are several culinary offerings, including island shrimp, empanadas, sangria, frozen drinks and more.

Summer Nights at Busch Gardens and SeaWorld consist of a nighttime spectacular taking place when the sun sets. Busch Gardens begins their summer schedule June 9, while SeaWorld begins theirs on June 23; both run through August 12.

At SeaWorld their Summer Nights celebration includes:

  • Shamu Rocks
Rock the night away, with Shamu. This show has more flash—and certainly more splash—than a rock concert.
  • Sea Lions Tonight
It’s comedy night at SeaWorld as their dynamic sea lion and otter duo—Clyde and Seamore—make life a little crazy for their stage manager.
  • Reflections
Gather seaside along the Waterfront Village for this spectacular celebration of animated fountains and dazzling fireworks. Or take a seat in the Bayside Stadium and enjoy the show from the comforts of their theater-style seating.

Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens

At Busch Gardens their Summer Nights celebration includes:

  • Cheetah Hunt
Launch into the ultimate excitement of Cheetah Hunt, their newest roller coaster experience that coaster enthusiasts can’t stop talking about. The darkness gives the graceful predator a new twist.
  • Kinetix
Kinetix’s energizing performances include live musicians, singers, dancers and artists from around the world every night on the Gwazi Park stage.
  • “Let’s Get Loud”
On the Stage in the Marrakesh Theater, singers, dancers and musicians heat up Summer Nights with popular contemporary music and dance, incorporating the Latin flair of Miami’s South Beach.
  • End your Summer Nights evening with an amazing fireworks finale every night, right after Kinetix.

No matter which Florida theme park you visit this Summer, you are sure to have a great time with extended hours and special events. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: Be sure to plan for the afternoon rain showers. They happen nearly every day. Check the daily forecast before heading out in the morning. With a little planning, you won’t skip a beat in your fun vacation. Enjoy!
