Summer Winding Down at Orlando Attractions

Children are returning to school in Florida, and summer is winding down. Orlando attractions will be very busy for the next few weeks, however, after Labor Day, the crowds begin to thin. Theme parks are not quite ready to call it a summer though!

As suggested in our post about Diagon Alley even before this new attraction opened, the crowds have been astonishing. Just last week Universal Studios announced that 1 million passengers have taken a ride on the Hogwarts Express! In less than a month, this attraction hit a major milestone. Unfortunately, Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts ride is still causing long wait lines. While the wait queue is very entertaining, spending several hours waiting in line is never fun. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: If you can wait until September or October, go to this theme park on a weekday, as early as possible, you may see the shortest wait time for this ride yet. They are getting more and more efficient at handling the large park crowds.

Orlando theme park record day

Another park that has had an extremely successful summer is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Records have been broken primarily because of the special events centered around the movie “Frozen.” Scheduled to end on September 1, Disney will try to extend their summer success by extending the Frozen event. It will now end on the 28th of September. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: If you want to see the “Frozen Fireworks,” you will need to attend this Orlando theme park on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday after the first of September. Other evenings will not feature this spectacular fireworks show.

"Frozen Summer Fun Live!" at Disney's Hollywood Studios

If you’ve already taken your summer vacation, start saving up for next year. There are sure to be a lot of new attractions and fun things to do in Orlando. If you still have some vacation days left, look for discount tickets to Orlando theme parks in September. This is usually a great time of the year to visit.

Get Frozen This Summer in an Orlando Theme Park

The weather may be hot and tropical, but at this Orlando theme park, you can escape it all and find yourself in a land of frozen fairy tales. It all has to do with Disney’s Hollywood Studios Frozen Summer Fun Live event starting July 5 through September 1, 2014. The popularity of the movie “Frozen” is alive and well this summer in Orlando and being celebrated by numerous special events and offerings.

Disney's Frozen

The following special events will take place:

• For The First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration: Be sure to check out the Premiere Theater for a 20-minute show featuring Princess Anna, Queen Elsa and the Royal Historians of Arendelle as they retell the history of their kingdom. You’ll be able to join in a sing-along to the popular songs from the movie’s soundtrack. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: At the end of the performance, a few guests are chosen as “Honorary Citizens of Arendelle.” This special show is presented daily at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

This “Frozen Funland” is a winter wonderland where guests can make the most of a sudden snowstorm and enjoy a plethora of winter activities. Go ice skating, watch ice carving demonstrations and sip on hot cocoa. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: This is a great opportunity to have your photo taken with characters from the movie.

• Take-Along Olaf: Speaking of photos – If you are a recipient of a “Take-Along Olaf” be sure to hashtag #OlafSummerVacation when sharing your photo through social media. Your photo may appear on the big screen at a special pre-show event that takes place every evening before the fireworks show! ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: You may pick up your own take-along Olaf at the Sorcerer’s Hat Icon Stage.

• Coolest Summer Ever Dance Party: Every evening from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. a DJ and live band will play on stage to celebrate the Frozen summer fun. Dance to contemporary songs and a few film favorites. Save some energy though, the night is not over yet!

• Frozen Fireworks: Each evening, the giant Sorcerer Mickey Hat on Hollywood Boulevard gets the full Frozen treatment with special projections of snow and ice images. Set to the film’s soundtrack, the fireworks show features special guests, including an appearance from Elsa in which she will show how her powers flurry “through the air and to the ground” to produce magically icy blue and white gleaming fireworks. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: The Frozen Fireworks time will change from 9:45 p.m. each night to 9:15 p.m. from Aug. 17 to Sept. 1. Fireworks will not happen on Aug. 23, because of the Villains Unleashed special-ticket event at the Orlando theme park.

If you are looking for a cool way to enjoy an Orlando attraction this summer, be sure to experience a ‘Frozen’ visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Most of the activities are included with park admission. Theme park ticket deals can be found on Disney’s web site or any reputable theme park ticket reseller’s site. Stay cool this summer!

The holiday season is well underway at Disney World in Orlando. Other Orlando theme parks and attractions will be starting their celebrations soon, however, Disney isn’t waiting. It is full steam ahead with the holidays and all that glitters, sparkles, jingles and glows!

Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will take the place of the regular afternoon parade through January 2nd. The parade is filled with puppets, stilt walkers, tricked-out safari vehicles and more. Jingle along without spending a single ‘jingle’ more – the festivities are included in regular park admission.

The massive seasonal display of lights known as The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is underway nightly. ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: 2015 will be the last year for the light spectacle, so be sure to see them! This Orlando theme park continues to get the crowd involved with “Glow With the Show” ear hats and products. Each member of your family can purchase a Minnie Mouse Headband, Mickey Mouse Glove or a Sorcerer Mickey Wand and be a part of the show! These items sync up to the music and choreography, blinking in time and changing colors to add an entirely new experience during the nightly celebration. This seasonal experience features millions of lights – not to be missed. The holiday show is included in regular park admission and runs through January 3rd.

If you love Mickey and Christmas and Parades, stick around after normal theme park hours, pay a little extra during your visit to the Magic Kingdom and enjoy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. You’ll get to experience a special parade, stage shows and fireworks. Looking for snow? Grab some hot chocolate and see the “snow flurries” on Main Street USA. Tickets run between $69 up to $74 and are available only on certain dates (check their web site for specific dates). ORLANDO TOURIST TIP: Tickets to this event often sell out, so purchase yours early!

Epcot is filled with warmth during the holiday season as Holidays Around The World begins officially on November 27 and runs through December 30, 2015. New Pirate movie and makeover

Pirate mermaid photo
Shiver me timbers, the 4thPirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides, will be out in theatres tomorrow, May 20th.  The new movie will feature everyone’s favorite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, played, of course, by Johnny Depp.  But the new movie will feature several new characters instead of the same characters from the first 3 movies.  Instead of blacksmith Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, we will meet the famous pirate Blackbeard, played by Ian McShane and Angelica (Blackbeard’s daughter), and played by Penelope Cruz.  The adventure will feature enchanting mermaids, and a journey to the Fountain of Youth.

Inspired by the new movie, Disney is coming out with a new ‘mermaid makeover’ for little girls.  The $29.95 package includes an “ocean-inspired” makeover; complete with ‘mermaid’s tears’ nail lacquer, a rhinestone face gem, hair accessory, and Pirates League sheath.  The makeover will be available at the Magic Kingdom’s Pirate League location in Adventureland.  For reservations and more information, call 407-939-2739.

Personally, I obviously have not seen the movie yet, but I am a big fan of the ‘Pirates’ series.  However, seeing photos of the mermaids, I think they may be too sexually alluring – I’m not sure I’d want my ‘little girl’ to emulate them. Feel free to let me know your thoughts below.

Special Disney price for Florida residents

If you are a resident here in the Sunshine State, Walt Disney World Resorts is offering a special Wild 4 Disney pass! You can get admission to all 4 Disney parks for 4 days for only $119 + tax (1 day per park). That’s about $30 a day!

Of course, this is a limited time offer because the tickets expire May 26, 2011. And there is a blackout week from April 17-24 as well. But, it’s still a good deal, and you have plenty of time to use your 4 days between now and May. You can also add options to your pass, including the Park Hopper Option and Water Park option. They are an additional cost, but may be worth it, especially once the weather warms up and those water parks start looking very inviting.
(See Disney’s website for additional details, proof of residency required.)
