Tappas cuisineExecutive Chef Wendy Lopez, a native of Michoacan, Mexico, began cooking at a young age while working in her family’s restaurant. After formal training at Le Cordon Bleu College in Orlando, she began her professional career at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere. She went on to become sous chef under Certified Master Chef Russell Scott.

She has aided in the development of a unique menu featuring a robust selection of hot and cold tapas, paella variations and desserts. Using only the freshest imported ingredients, Chef Lopez combines traditional Spanish elements to create an authentic taste experience for people in Orlando.

Taste of Winter Park

This Wednesday, April 20th, will be the 26th annual Taste of Winter Park.  The Winter Park area has been known for its fine dining, and this is your chance to taste unlimited samples of food and drink from some of the area’s finest restaurants.   The event will take place at the Winter Park Farmer’s Market, rain or shine, and will also include live entertainment by Johnny Mag Sax.

Some of the restaurants that will be featuring mouth-watering dishes include 4 Rivers Smokehouse, Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine, Mellow Mushroom, Mitchell’s Fish Market, Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, and the Ravenous Pig. There will be over 40 fabulous restaurants participating, and this is a great way to try them all, for only $40.

The Wave of American Flavors – new breakfast buffet

The Wave of American Flavors restaurant at Disney’s Contemporary Resort has recently added a breakfast buffet. The buffet consists of classic American favorites like pancakes, bacon, hash browns, quiche, etc. They also serve several egg creations, Omega Berry Smoothies, and make-your-own muesli, which is a mixture of cereal flakes and rolled oats with dried fruit and nuts, eaten with milk.

The Wave…of American Flavors also serves a great lunch with a variety of options including Florida Rock Shrimp, burgers, salads and sandwiches. Their dinners combine American fare with world flavors for some spectacular culinary treats, along with trendy cocktails.

The price for the new breakfast buffet is $18.49 and $10.99 for ages 3-9. And, you can make a reservation by calling 407-939-3463 or clicking here. So, if you’re visiting Disney, the breakfast buffet will get your energy going so you can enjoy the parks!

Spotlight: Mythos Restaurant at Islands of Adventure

Mythos Restaurant at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure was named the world’s best theme park restaurant for six years running. And, they just won again at the 2011 Foodie Awards. This unique restaurant is located in the area of the lost city of Atlantis, and is one of only 2 full-service restaurants inside the park. The exterior of towering rock formations with carved ancient figures, and cascading waterfalls set the mood for this dining experience. Inside, you’ll enjoy the cavernous interior in what appears to be an enchanted cave, the walls of which morph from rocky surfaces to mystical faces and even into voluptuous bodies. And, there’s an outdoor seating area with a spectacular view of the park’s sea and islands.

The menu consists of an eclectic assortment of food, ranging from hamburgers to sushi. The gourmet cuisine includes blueberry and pistachio crusted grilled pork, cedar planked Bay of Fundy salmon, and imported pasta. Mouth-watering desserts and a full wine list are also available, as well as a separate children’s menu. A full-service lunch is served daily. The food is great, prices reasonable, and atmosphere pleasant.

Universal does offer a dining pass deal, which allows guests to enter the park to dine at the restaurant without paying for admission. Here’s how it works: go to the guest services window and tell them you’d like to dine at Mythos. They’ll ask for a photo id and a credit card. They’ll ring up a charge ticket for the full park admission and give you a pass to enter the park and go to the restaurant. When you’re finished, you present the pass and proof that you purchased a meal at Mythos and they tear up your credit slip. They give you about 2 ½ hours. So, that’s a great way to enjoy the restaurant even if you are not visiting the theme park, enjoy!

Spotlight: Victoria & Albert’s restaurant

The elegant Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa offers a unique dinner menu each night.  Both the restaurant and the resort itself inspire romance.  This upscale restaurant offers exquisite cuisine as well as ambiance.  You’ll enjoy a 2 – 3 hour dining experience of a 7-course meal, with a gentle harp playing in the background.  They have received the prestigious AAA Five Diamond award for 10 years running, as well as Zagat’s National Top Ten Restaurants Award, along with their award-winning wine cellar.

The menu is prepared daily based upon fresh ingredients, and includes a wide variety of items, which may include Ocala Rabbit, Smoked Niman Ranch Lamb, Elk Tenderloin, or Australian Kobe Beef.  You are sure to find something unique and pleasing to your pallet. Valet Parking is available at no additional cost.  And, they do not allow small children; they must be over age 10.
